Horizon Voyager Group's Back Nine retreat brought a select group of discerning golfers to one of America's most celebrated coastal destinations — Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Nestled along ten miles of pristine Atlantic shoreline, Kiawah Island is home to five championship golf courses, a world-class resort, and some of the most spectacular private residential estates on the Eastern Seaboard.
Our group enjoyed exclusive access to multiple championship layouts throughout the week, with the crown jewel being a coveted round on the legendary Ocean Course — the same stage that hosted the 1991 Ryder Cup and the 2021 PGA Championship. Off the course, we retreated each evening to a collection of privately rented, multi-million dollar oceanfront and lagoon-view homes, providing the group with the privacy, space, and luxury befitting The Horizon Standard.

Designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1991, The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is consistently ranked among the top 10 public golf courses in the United States and has hosted the 1991 Ryder Cup — famously dubbed "The War by the Shore" — as well as the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championships.
Ten of the eighteen holes on The Ocean Course run directly alongside the Atlantic Ocean, making it one of the most oceanside layouts in American golf. The prevailing coastal winds off the Atlantic can add the equivalent of several club lengths to any given shot, demanding both precision and adaptability from every player.
Stretching to over 7,800 yards from the championship tees, The Ocean Course is one of the longest courses in major championship golf. The par-72 layout features dramatic elevation changes, deep waste bunkers, and undulating Bermuda grass fairways that reward strategic course management over raw power.
Kiawah Island is a certified wildlife sanctuary. Golfers routinely share the course with loggerhead sea turtles nesting on the adjacent beach, white-tailed deer grazing along the fairways, and the occasional alligator sunning near the water hazards — a reminder that this is nature's terrain as much as it is a championship venue.
Beyond The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers four additional championship layouts — Osprey Point, Turtle Point, Cougar Point, and Oak Point — each presenting a distinct character and challenge, ensuring that no two rounds on the island are ever alike.
